Personal Development of our Pupils

At the Valley Community Primary School, we know that personal development is just as important as academic achievement. We want our pupils to grow into confident, resilient, and responsible citizens who are able to reach their full potential.

Skills and Attributes

Our personal development curriculum is designed to help pupils develop the following skills and attributes:

Self-awareness and self-management: Pupils learn to understand their own emotions, thoughts, and behaviours. They also develop the skills to manage their emotions and behaviours effectively.
Social and emotional intelligence: Pupils learn to build and maintain positive relationships with others. They also develop the skills to resolve conflict peacefully and communicate effectively.
Moral and ethical reasoning: Pupils learn to think critically about moral and ethical issues. They also develop the skills to make informed and responsible decisions.
Citizenship: Pupils learn about their rights and responsibilities as citizens. They also develop the skills to participate in democracy and make a positive contribution to society.

Personal Development

We deliver our personal development curriculum through a variety of teaching and learning activities, including:

Circle time: Circle time is a daily activity where pupils come together to discuss their feelings, share ideas, and learn about different social and emotional topics.
PSHE lessons: PSHE lessons are planned and delivered by our experienced teachers. They cover a wide range of topics, including relationships, sex education, and citizenship.
Assemblies: We hold weekly assemblies where we discuss important personal development issues and celebrate the achievements of our pupils.
Extra-curricular activities: We offer a wide range of extra-curricular activities, such as sports clubs, music lessons, and drama groups. These activities provide pupils with opportunities to develop their skills and talents, and to make new friends.

Wider Opportunities at Our School

At the Valley, our personal development programme goes well beyond the curriculum. In addition to learning in class, we offer our pupils wider opportunities including: engagement in clubs and sporting events, opportunities to work with our feeder schools and community partners and visits and visitors that enhance the curriculum and support personal development.
