At the Valley, we believe that an effective RE curriculum needs to enable pupils to develop a clearer understanding of their own values and beliefs while respecting those of others. We choose to deliver the curriculum using the SACRE and Bolton Agreed Syllabus 2020. Our curriculum enables pupils to encounter broad and diverse examples of religions and world views, it focuses on core concepts and encourages pupils’ personal development by applying their learning to living.
We also believe that religious education should make a significant contribution to the school’s ethos through the encouragement of positive caring attitudes towards others in our school, our wider community and the wider world. RE contributes significantly to personal development and community cohesion by promoting mutual respect and tolerance in a diverse society while making important contributions to SMSC.
As a school, we are obliged to make parents and carers aware that they have the right to withdraw their child from all or part of RE lessons at the school. If parents wish to exercise this right, we ask that they contact the school directly with their request.
