At the Valley, we believe that children make sense of their world, the ways and reasons it has developed in to the world it is today and enrich their understanding of it, through a vibrant and varied study of History. Through this curriculum, children will understand the similarities and differences between societies and cultures, the impact of changes on people and place and how that has impacted on the world in which they are an important part of today.
We believe that a high-quality history education will help pupils gain a coherent knowledge and understanding of Britain’s past and that of the wider world. It should inspire pupils’ curiosity to know more about the past. Teaching should equip pupils to ask perceptive questions, think critically, weigh evidence, sift arguments, and develop perspective and judgement. History helps pupils to understand the complexity of people’s lives, the process of change, the diversity of societies and relationships between different groups, as well as their own identity and the challenges of their time. Our aims are to ensure that our students experience a wide breadth of study and have, by the end of each key stage, long-term memory of an ambitious body of procedural and semantic knowledge.
