Our School Improvement Cycle 2026/27
Our School Improvement Cycle runs from 1 April to 31 March each year.
You can see the details behind each priority within the School Improvement Plan document (see tab).
Headline Priorities for 2026/27:
Priority 1 (Quality of Education: Curriculum and Teaching):
The central focus for 2026–27 is the continued strengthening of curriculum quality, particularly through three major implementation strands:
- Writing (DfE Writing Framework)
A whole-school audit and re-sequencing of writing ensures full alignment with national expectations. Staff CPD, model lessons, moderation and targeted interventions support consistent, high-quality practice across EYFS to Year 6. Impact is evaluated through book scrutiny, pupil voice and progress data, with clear accountability to governors. - Physical Education
A redesigned PE curriculum secures progression, inclusion and entitlement to two hours of PE per week. Whole-staff training, EYFS-specific support, improved assessment and enhanced extracurricular provision strengthen both curriculum and wider participation, particularly for disadvantaged and SEND pupils. - RSHE/PSHE scheme Jigsaw
Implementation of the new syllabus ensures statutory compliance and conceptual coherence. Staff confidence is developed through CPD and modelling, while enrichment activities and community partnerships deepen pupils’ understanding and engagement
Priority 2 (Inclusion and Equality):
Inclusion remains a core strength and strategic priority. The plan focuses on:
- embedding the Bell Foundation EAL assessment framework to ensure precise baseline assessment, small-step progress tracking and personalised support,
- strengthening provision for vulnerable pupils through the structured use of the OWLs room for nurture, sensory and therapeutic interventions, and
- improving parental engagement and governor oversight through regular reporting and impact evaluation.
Priority 3 (Early Years Foundation Stage ‘EYFS’):
EYFS development responds to both expansion and quality priorities. Actions include:
- monitoring the impact of increased two-year-old provision funded through DfE grant;
- sustaining high-quality provision despite increased numbers;
- aligning EYFS writing practice with the DfE Writing Framework, with strong emphasis on physical development, adult modelling and observational assessment; and
- strengthening parental engagement and reporting impact to governors.
Priority 4 (Leadership and Governance)
Leadership development and governance oversight underpin all priorities. The plan strengthens:
- appraisal and professional development processes,
- zonal (phase-based) collaboration and CPD,
- systematic case sampling and learning walks aligned with Ofsted expectations, and
- succession planning through targeted middle leadership development towards assistant headship.
